She followed that passion and completed a cosmetology course at the Aveda Institute, Minneapolis in 2008. After discovering a particular interest in Special Effects Make-Up and a desire to work in the film industry, Darla moved to Canada to complete the year-long Makeup Design for Film and Television course at Vancouver Film School. She was awarded First Place in Los Angeles (2012), First Place in Toronto (2012) and Third Place in Los Angeles (2013).
When Darla moved back to Minneapolis in 2013, she worked on various films and TV shows including the independent feature film Solitude. The film was an official selecton of the 2014 Twin Cities Film Festival where it won the award for Audience Selected Best Feature.
In 2015 Darla was a contestant on SyFy Network’s hit competition reality show, Face Off. After weeks of intense competition creating monsters and fantasy characters, Darla was announced the winner and champion of Season 8.
